Auckland boat owners attempting to tug their vessel back onshore somehow ended up with their car in the water instead.

A partially submerged car in the water off Island Bay Rd in Auckland’s Beach Haven led to a flurry of calls to police last night.

The sedan was spotted in the water around 5pm.

A witness told the Herald the mishap occurred as owners were trying to bring their boat back in.

“Unfortunately the owners got stuck in the mud.”

A police spokesman said a number of calls had been made about the submerged vehicle.

However, he said police did not attend the incident and the car was towed out.

“There was nothing untoward about it … just someone’s poor judgment.”

He wasn’t sure how the car got into the water but believed no one was injured in the incident.
